What
is I-Ching?
The literal meaning of ‘I-Ching’
or ‘Yi-Jing’ is ‘Book of Changes’ or ‘Classic of Changes’. I-Ching is the
world’s oldest oracle that unlocks the mysteries of nature. This Book of
Changes contains thousands of years of accumulated experience of diviners and
sages. With the help of I-Ching divination, one can gain more insight into the
changes that are continuously occurring around us and make informed decisions.
I-Ching is based on 64
Hexagrams, which are constructed from bottom to top using ‘solid and broken lines’.
A solid line in a Hexagram represents Yang Line and a broken line represents
Yin Line. There are different ways to cast the Hexagram for a client. One may
use the most popular coin toss method or yarrow sticks method or pulling
marbles from a bag. Once the Hexagram is cast using one of the methods, then comes
the interpretation of the Hexagram, two methods are available for that. The
easiest option will be to refer to the translated version of the traditional
I-Ching Book, which was originally written in Chinese thousands of years ago.
As the texts were written thousands of years ago, they are written mostly using
allegory, which is very hard to correlate with modern-day context. Moreover, as
the original texts written in Chinese have gone through multiple rounds of
translation, the hidden meaning was lost on the way.
The alternate and more accurate
approach is to apply the principles of Chinese Astrology to interpret the
hidden meanings of the client’s Hexagram. This advanced method is known as the ‘Wen
Wang Gua’. By applying these principles, one not only can unlock the mysteries
of I-Ching but also can make very specific guidance on the forthcoming changes
that may affect the client.
