The BEST Feng Shui Water Feature

What do you think we need the most to survive? Food? Shelter? Air? Water? The top two would be air and water followed by the rest. These two are among the fundamental building blocks of life on Earth. Needless to say, without fresh oxygen-rich air to breathe, we cannot stay alive. Population density is way higher in lower altitudes than in higher altitudes as the air at higher altitudes lacks oxygen and life becomes difficult. Mind here, the altitude is always measured from the sea level. Human civilizations were built and thrived closer to water bodies, which influence every aspect of our living. We all know that water occupies a three-fourths portion of Earth and 60% of the human body.

Intelligent people from ancient China noticed these elemental influences and understood that the Chi that flows through nature and the human body must be influenced by these two. They derived the methodology to understand the flow of Air and Water, which is popularly known as Feng Shui today. Chi flow is obstructed if the smooth natural flow of both or any one of these two fundamental elements is obstructed. Impeded chi flow causes all sorts of opposite effects to the desired outcome related to human life. The objective of the Feng Shui practitioners is to understand the obstructions in your surroundings that can block the healthy natural flow of Chi through your space and to remove or bypass those blockages to create a smooth-flowing path for Chi. The smooth natural flow of Chi always means smooth life.

Now, when natural air flow is obstructed, it is advisable to keep the windows or doors open for the wind to flow through your space removing the stale Chi. However, it is not feasible for water to flow through our home. Otherwise, there would be flooding and no space for humans to live. What if you need the presence of water in your space to create a smooth Chi flow? The answer is easy! We mimic the flow of water in small human-made objects to achieve the positive effect of natural water flow.

For this reason, water features have been very popular for Feng Shui activations for thousands of years. Water features installed at the correct location can activate the Chi hotspot and create a constructive harmonic resonance. As the human body is influenced by air and water, the vibrational frequency created by the constant interaction between the surrounding air and water molecules inside the water feature has a tremendous effect on our mental, physical, and spiritual nourishment, well-being, and vitality.

Common myths and misunderstandings about water features -

1. Water features can make us a millionaire instantly – This is a myth. While a correctly placed water feature will motivate you to make the right decision and perform the right action at the right time, it is YOU, who finally needs to do it ultimately to bring changes and transformation in your life.

2. Water features in the North will boost career, in the South-East boost wealth – This is another myth. As per the Bagua Energy map the North Sector represents our professional career and our overall journey through life. The South-East sector in Bagua represents gratitude for whatever we have achieved in our lives. Refer to Figure 1, which explains the Chi Alignment on multiple layers. Bagua represents the top layer in the three layers of Chi alignment. For the Water Feature to be an effective Feng Shui activation, we need to analyze the bottom layer with the help of flying stars. We cannot generalize and say that a water feature in the North sector of our house will always stimulate our professional career. Rather depending on whether there is a positive, negative, or neutral chi at the bottom layer the water feature will have a positive or negative or no significant impact on the career.

3. A Fish Tank or Aquarium is the most effective Feng Shui cure – This is another common myth. For Feng Shui to work we need fresh and vibrant moving water. This can be achieved using any water feature, be it a tabletop indoor water fountain or a large fish tank. We don’t necessarily need a Fish Tank or Aquarium for Feng Shui activation. While the healthy fish inside a fish tank is a beauty to our eyes, there are no added benefits from the Feng Shui activation point of view.

4. Install water features to activate the Annual Flying Stars - This is a very common myth in the Feng Shui community. There is a school of thought, that recommends installing water features by only assessing the annual Flying Stars. For example, in 2024 the Yang Wood Dragon Year the Annual 9 Purple Star is visiting the South-West sector inside our house. Refer to Figure 2 and Figure 3. If we install a water feature in the South-West sector of our house in 2024 by assessing only the annual flying star and without paying attention to the underlying natal flying stars of the house of the same sector, we may invite fatal experiences and money loss in our lives.

Limitations of commonly available water features

There are huge varieties of both indoor and outdoor water features, which are currently available in different shapes, sizes, and forms. On one hand, we have the indoor tabletop water fountain with LED lights (refer Figure 4), and cascading water feature with LED lights (refer Figure 5); on the other hand, we can have a free-standing indoor waterfall (refer Figure 6). However, the biggest limitation of all the commonly available indoor water features is that they look aesthetically beautiful without much Feng Shui principle incorporated in the design. Most of those lack the fundamental flow forms, i.e. the Clockwise and Anti-Clockwise movement of water, which are essential for Feng Shui activation and stimulation. Is it possible to apply this flow form principle to an indoor water feature? Of course!
